The crafty, sneaky, and troublesome raccoon, well known for raiding garbage cans, dumpsters, and landfills, may seem like more of a pest than a meal. However, Native Americans, as well as the first American settlers, enjoyed a young, fresh raccoon whenever they had the chance. While seen as repulsive today, the curious historian and the hungry hobo still catch the occasional, unlucky raccoon for a hot meal.
