Background
Edit
The noisy and diamond-edged Consvarna™ brand of high-powered chainsaws is the preferred power tool of loggers, disturbed hermits, and heroes of gory B-movies. Please wield with caution.
Available in hardware stores throughout North America.
Tactics
Edit
The Last Stand
Edit
The fourth weapon that can be scavenged in the game; if any zombies manage to reach the barricade, use this to get rid of them. It can grind up overlapping stacks of enemies fairly quickly, has a large fuel tank and has a very fast reload time, making it an excellent secondary weapon for when zombies get too close.
Pros
Edit
- Reloads Quickly
- Good Damage
- Cuts through multiple enemies
- Large Fuel Capacity (largest ammo cap of all weapons)
Cons
Edit
- Melee Range (zombies must be close to barricade)
The Last Stand 2
Edit
The same weapon as in the previous game, except with a smaller fuel tank and a longer reload time; only Jack can equip it. An effective secondary weapon, which can be found in Glendale.
Pros
Edit
- Good Damage
- Cuts through multiple enemies
- Large Fuel Capacity
Cons
Edit
- Reloads Slowly
- Melee Range (zombies must be close to barricade)
The Last Stand: Union City
Edit
While it does deal quite a bit of damage, can cut through multiple enemies at once, has good knockback, and has a very large fuel tank, it is also rather heavy, its ammo can be hard to come by, it is extraordinarily loud when attacking, and the grating noise it makes while idle can be rather annoying. It's useful if you're expecting a horde or for attracting attention, but impractical otherwise.
Notes
Edit
- Interestingly, the chainsaw continues making noise even if sound is disabled from the in-game menu.
- When given to a companion, the chainsaw makes much less noise.
How to Obtain
Edit
It can only be obtained through skilled/lucky finds in containers, or through lucky drops from zombies. A high Luck and high Searching skill will assist in finding one.
Pros
Edit
- Good damage
- Good reach
- Good knockback
- Strikes instantly
- Large fuel capacity (largest ammo cap of all weapons)
- Reloads instantly
- Cuts through multiple enemies
Cons
Edit
- Very loud
- Consumes ammo quickly
- Heavy
- Uncommon ammo Type
- Rare
The Last Stand: Dead Zone
Edit
Unlike its predecessors, this version of the Chainsaw does not use ammunition or fuel of any kind, making it a regular melee weapon. What it does share is its loudness and incredible power, though its slow strike speed makes it very risky to use, especially since the generated noise may attract more zombies than its wielder can handle. It is best for the wielder to be backed up by other survivors.
How to Obtain
Edit
- It can be scavenged during Level 18+ missions.
- Level 18 Extended Muffled variants can be crafted using a Chainsaw and 26 Machined Parts at a Level 8+ Weapons Bench for 22
after scavenging the required schematic. Also requires a Level 18+ Engineer and Fighter.
- Level 18 Quality Ripping variants can be crafted using a Chainsaw and 50 Machined Parts at a Level 9+ Weapons Bench for 31
after scavenging the required schematic. Also requires a Level 18+ Engineer and Fighter.
