Clothing is a category of items featured in The Last Stand: Union City and The Last Stand: Dead Zone.

Clothing can be found under the Clothing tab in the backpack, and can be equipped by simply clicking on it; clicking again will unequip the item. Most clothing items do not provide any bonuses in stats and are purely cosmetic, allowing the player to customize their character's appearance. Armor and helmets are an exception to the aforementioned rule, reducing damage taken by the player, with the HERC Kevlar Vest providing the best protection and the Police Kevlar Vest providing the least protection.

Clothing is divided into 7 categories: Head, Face, Eyes, Torso, Armor, Legs, and Feet. Equipping clothing items from different categories will not cause a conflict; for example, equipping a Riot Helmet and a pair of sunglasses will simply result in the character wearing both the helmet and the sunglasses. Equipping an item while the character already has an item from the same category equipped will result in the old item being replaced; for example, equipping a fedora while a wool hat is already being worn will result in the wool hat being unequipped in order to allow the fedora to be donned.

The player will always start the game wearing a white shirt, black jeans, and black shoes. Since these items provide no stat bonuses, it is possible for the player to simply dispose of them and complete the game without worrying about clothing. If the player unequips all clothing items, the character is shown wearing a white tank top, grey boxer shorts, and white socks.

Hats in the Dead Zone

Clothing was reintroduced in The Last Stand: Dead Zone on March 20, 2013 in the form of hats and masks that provide small stat bonuses. They can be found while scavenging in the Dead Zone, or from opening supply boxes and certain packages. Only two pieces of headgear, named Accessories in-game, can be equipped at a time (i.e. a mask and a hat).

Some clothing items are restricted to survivor class, meaning that they can only be worn by a survivor of a specific class. The Leader may wear any piece of clothing regardless of class restrictions.

On March 15, 2016, outfits were made available for survivors to find and wear, most of which are purely cosmetic. Pieces for legs and torsos can be found while scavenging in the Dead Zone, or from opening supply boxes and certain packages.

Some clothing and accessory items provide bonuses to stats, which range from being minor improvements to significant changes. These can be combined with other clothing items and gear to effectively boost a survivor's stats.
