Background[]
Explosives aren't of much use if there is nothing to set them off. Detonators are thus used for the controlled detonation of explosives. In the case of C4 plastic explosives, a detonator is required, as C4 does not detonate when exposed to most physical forces. Most detonators are powered electrically, although mechanical fuses are still sometimes used.
Usually found in the military and in mining operations, though many are illegally obtained by terrorists.
