Despite their name, baked beans are usually stewed, not baked. Most commercial canned beans use haricot beans submerged in tomato and sugar sauce. Most of the time they are used with toast or waffles, but they can be eaten by themselves with no harm. Canned beans are commonly used in emergency situations, since they're already fully cooked and can be eaten directly from the can. Survivors should stock up on these whenever they can, but beware of the gas!
