Background[]
Staples are a two-pronged metal fastener that sees both blue and white collared uses. A staple's two teeth sink into the material it is fired into, securing the staple in place. In the case of paper, the legs may also be folded to prevent the staple from escaping. The crown at the top holds the two legs together and provide a surface for a hammer or stapler to pound the staple in. Large staples are often used to make boxes and roofs, and are applied with a hammer or an industrial staple gun. Smaller staples are used in offices to bind stacks of paper together, and are applied by a hand-powered stapler or an office printer.
Large staples can be purchased from hardware stores, while smaller staples can be bought from stationery stores. Large staples can also be plucked out of wood and boxes, and small staples out of conjoined paper.
