Background[]
Struts are parts of a structure intended to resist longitudinal compression. Struts are fundamental parts in automobile and aircraft structures, but they also play an important role in construction as the support beams in timber-framed buildings. They may also see use as blocking: horizontal bracing pieces located between wall studs to give rigidity to wall frames and floor joists to allow another floor to be built.
Made of timber, steel or aluminium, struts can be found in construction sites, hardware stores, and incomplete home renovation projects.
